BOSTON — A fifth Massachusetts State Police Trooper has been arrested as part of an overtime abuse scandal that has already seen guilty pleas.

Daren DeJong, 56, was charged with embezzlement from an agency receiving federal funds and was due in Boston federal court Wednesday.

DeJong, a retired trooper from Uxbridge, was assigned to Troop E, the now-shuttered division responsible for traffic patrol along the Massachusetts Turnpike.

DeJong earned $179,000 in 2016, which included $63,000 in overtime, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Federal prosecutors say a little over $14,000 worth of his claimed overtimes was attributable to shifts DeJong left early or didn't show up for.
