REVERE, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- An excavator crashed down through a bridge that was under construction in Revere Saturday morning.
At about 6:25 a.m., a bridge floor beam shifted during a scheduled bridge demolition, which caused the excavator to tip. The excavator then stopped at a 45 degree angle on the ground, police said.
The operator suffered a laceration to his head. The 50-year-old Bridgewater man was taken to the hospital by a co-worker.
The bridge was stabilized by late morning and the excavator was removed.
Revere resident Daniel Heidebrecht said he's "mainly worried about the safety of the bridge if they're going to reopen it over the weekend or what because it was only supposed to be closed over the weekend."
Police say they don't believe this will affect the timeline for reopening the bridge, which is scheduled to happen Monday morning.
It's unclear if there was any damage to the commuter rail tracks below the bridge where the incident happened. The bridge is scheduled to be shut down again next weekend to replace the other side of the road.
