WORCESTER, Mass. — A train engineer was injured Saturday morning after a freight train derailed at Worcester's Cambridge Street overpass.
According to Worcester Deputy Chief Martin Dyer, up to 15 train cars were thrown off the tracks. The derailment involved a CSX train traveling on the Providence and Worcester tracks.
The fire department is continuing to investigate and there is no ongoing risk to public safety.
"Right now the area is safe and under control," Dyer told MassLive in an interview.
The train's engineer was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, authorities said.
