WATERTOWN, Mass. — Speed may have been a factor in a multi-vehicle crash that killed a woman in Watertown on Wednesday, the district attorney said.
Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said in a statement Thursday that the woman, who was not identified, was driving a 2010 Honda Civic in the area of Pleasant and Bridge streets around 6:22 p.m. Wednesday when the vehicle clipped another car.
The woman then "drove into second motor vehicle head-on causing the Honda Civic to roll over," Ryan said.
She was pronounced dead on scene.
The driver of the other vehicle, a 41-year-old woman, and her three passengers were sent to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
On Wednesday, emergency crews spent hours at the crash site. Debris could be seen strewn across the street as investigators combed the area.
“What we think happened is that vehicle was traveling eastbound on Pleasant Street, lost control for some reason at a high rate of speed, struck the back of the vehicle in front of it, flipped to its side, and flipped into a car traveling the opposite way, and then flipped over onto its roof,” said Watertown Police Chief Michael Lawn.
