EASTON, Mass. — A fire in an Easton home's attic earlier this afternoon has caused an estimated $250,000 in damages, according to the Easton Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to a report of smoke in the attic of a Lancelot Lane house around 2:05 p.m. on Wednesday.

The first firefighter on scene reported a working fire to other firefighters after seeing flames burning through the house's roof.

A second alarm was called in order to make sure there were enough people on scene in the extreme heat.

The fire was brought under control within 45 minutes, and was fully knocked down within an hour and 10 minutes.

Two residents were home when the fire started, and both safely made it out with their two dogs uninjured.

A preliminary investigation shows the fire was caused by the home's air conditioning unit, but the fire remains under investigation.

"I'm proud of the work of our firefighters and all of the firefighters who supported us during this incident," Easton Fire Chief Kevin Partridge said. "Everyone coordinated very well with one another, and worked efficiently despite the extreme heat to quickly bring the fire under control."

Stoughton, Mansfield, Norton, West Bridgewater and Sharon's fire departments provided mutual aid at the scene, and the Brockton Fire Department helped with station coverage.
