SAUGUS, Mass. — The drawbridge connecting Lynn and Saugus reopened Wednesday morning, two days after it got stuck open.
The Belden Bly Bridge, also known as the Fox Hill Drawbridge, was stuck Monday and had to be lowered by crane Tuesday afternoon.
Massachusetts Department of Transportation officials said mechanical repairs are set to begin during overnight hours this week, but the bridge would be open between 5 a.m. and 8 p.m. starting Wednesday.
The Contractors told MassDOT a steel rope used to open the drawbridge has a mechanical issue that needs to be fixed.
The Belden Bly Bridge over the Saugus River carries traffic on Route 107.
Overnight traffic will be detoured.
The channel will be closed to marine traffic that would normally require the bridge to be lifted.
MassDOT says it is working on completing the design for an $80 million replacement bridge for the site.
