DiSarro family breaks silence as murder trial comes to a close

BOSTON — The family of a murdered Boston night club owner has finally broken their silence at the close of the trial for their loved one's suspected killer.

For 25 years, the family of Steven DiSarro has struggled to understand the disappearance of the man who once owned the Channel Night Club in Boston's South End.

Jury deliberations began Tuesday in the trial of 'Cadillac Frank' Salemme, the long-time Boston mob boss who has been accused of planning DiSarro's murder and having him buried in Rhode Island.

Prosecutors say former Mafia boss Francis "Cadillac Frank" Salemme and his co-defendant, Paul Weadick, killed DiSarro in 1993. DiSarro's remains weren't found until 2016.

DiSarro's family says "however gruesome the details presented during the trial have been," those details have provided closure. The family says they are grateful they can finally put many of their questions to rest.

Jury deliberations are expected to resume Wednesday morning.

Salemme and Weadick say they are innocent.

DiSarro family statement:

The last 25 years have been heartbreaking for us due to the sudden loss of a loved one, coupled with the fact that we were left without any answers as to what happened.  Nothing about the circumstances of our father, brother, uncle and husband’s disappearance have been typical.  We have been living for years with the idea that a man who was deeply loved by his family, never returned home to those he loved and we never knew why.  The answers were hidden deep inside a dark, and often violent underworld that we thankfully have never had access to. Of course there have been rumors, speculations, and opinions over the years, but what became forgotten amongst it all is the man that existed and the family and life that he built.

Since 1993, the uncertainty has left us unable to focus on the love that Steven DiSarro had for his family, nor the many successes he had in business as a real-estate developer and nightclub owner.  Instead a new narrative emerged, one where the unknown circumstances consumed us as a family and left us searching for answers.

Each one of us has spent the last 25 years trying to put the pieces of this tremendous loss together in our own way, searching for some sort of closure, trying to be able to truly mourn. We could never attempt to explain what this journey has been like, as it has been unique and personal to each member of our family.  What we can tell you is that however gruesome the details presented during the trial have been, it’s those details that have provided exactly the closure we were looking for.  As we wait for the verdict, hoping that it will reflect justice, the verdict alone will not determine our new narrative.

While we know nothing will bring him back, we now have the information surrounding the circumstances of what took him from us.  We have waited a long time for answers and explanations to things that are unexplainable. Without the trial process, we would never have had access to these elements. We can now put many of our questions, and the questions of others, to rest and for that we are eternally grateful.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the team of individuals that have worked so hard to bring the facts of this crime to light.   The dedication of Assistant U.S. District Attorneys Fred Wyshak and William Ferland, along with FBI special agents Jeff Cady and Chris Braga, and the additional law enforcement agents that have been instrumental in helping to answer our questions.  Additionally we would like to thank Judge Burroughs and her team. We would also like to thank the journalists who have been covering this trial, for their respect and consideration of our family during this process.  We ask that you continue to respect our privacy so we may continue to heal together.

Thank you,
The DiSarro Family
