BOSTON — Over a month after he was shot, former Red Sox slugger David Ortiz underwent a third surgery for complications resulting from his gunshot wound.
Ortiz, who has been in the hospital but out of the ICU unit for over two weeks is now "recovering from the surgery and is in good spirits," according to a statement from Tiffany Ortiz, Big Papi's wife.
In a statement, Tiffany continues to thank those who have helped out the family and shown support during Big Papi's recovery.
The full statement reads:
"Earlier this week, David underwent a third surgery for complications resulting from his gunshot wound. The operation was performed by Dr. David King at Massachusetts General Hospital. David is recovering well and is in good spirits. We continue to be incredibly appreciative of the kindness and compassion shown to David and to our entire family during this difficult time."
