Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz, who suffered a gunshot wound in June, has been released from Mass. General Hospital, the team confirmed to Boston 25 News in a statement.

"We understand that David has been released from MGH. There will be an update on his condition early next week," a spokesperson for the team wrote.

Ortiz's release was first reported by ESPN Deportes' Enrique Rojas.

According to ESPN Deportes' Marly Rivera, a source close to the family told ESPN that Ortiz was released from the hospital on Friday and will continue his rehabilitation at home.

Ortiz was shot at the Dial Bar and Lounge in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He underwent emergency surgery on June 10 -- the day after he was shot -- before flying to Boston where doctors performed two more procedures. His most recent surgery was two weeks ago.
