LOWELL, Mass. - Police in Lowell are investigating after a person was killed during an early morning home invasion on Thursday.
A second person who lives at the home on Walker Street arrived to find the victim with life-threatening injuries, according to investigators.
Police say someone broke into the home early Wednesday morning and apparently assaulted the man who lives at the home.
The victim, identified as Saro Mann Sr., was rushed to Lowell General Hospital but was later pronounced dead.
The victim's sister told Boston 25 News she visited her brother's apartment building on Thursday afternoon where a neighbor told her the state he was in when he was found.
"I’m still just in shock that anything like that could actually happen right next door," said one neighbor.
A neighbor, who spoke to Boston 25 News through a translator, said Mann's girlfriend woke her up in hysterics.
"She came over here to knock on the door and asked her to call 911," said the translator.
The two then ran back into the apartment where Mann was clinging to his life after suffering critical injuries.
"[They] saw him [lying] face down with blood covering his face and hair," said the translator.
Police spent the entire day investigating this homicide, questioning residents and sifting through evidence.
"The first thing I saw was a whole line of cops around the whole street and probably like three ambulances," said one neighbor.
Meanwhile, neighbors say they are still in disbelief that something so violent could happen so close. '
No arrests have been made yet, but one neighbor told Boston 25 News police were hoping to take a look at surveillance video.
