Crews work to build Comm Ave. replacement bridge

BOSTON, Massachusetts — Crews are working to build the bridge beams for the Commonwealth Avenue Bridge project ahead of next month's shutdown.

Crews are assembling what will be the westbound side of the bridge at the Beacon Park Yard in Allston. The panels will then be brought to the bridge once it is demolished.

"It's essentially going to be kind of like a puzzle that you put together in one place and then bring over to the other once they demo the bridge," said Highway Administrator Jonathan Gulliver.

The upcoming intensive construction operations are scheduled to take place over 15 ½ days from July 26 through August 11. At that time, travel on I-90, Commonwealth Avenue, and the Boston University Bridge, the MBTA Green Line B-Branch, MBTA bus service, as well as the MBTA Commuter Rail Worcester/Framingham line and Amtrak’s Lake Shore Limited line will be impacted.

MassDOT replaced the eastbound side of the Comm Ave bridge last summer.
