WEYMOUTH, Mass. — A coyote was shot and killed after it grabbed a cat that was tied to a zip line in Weymouth.

"I was in having a cup of coffee and came out to check on the cats," said Scott Daly.

Daly keeps his cat, Annie, on a zipline outside. At first, he had no idea what had its mouth around his cat.

"I thought it was a German Shepard it was so big," he told FOX25.

Daly started yelling and ran over to the coyote, which caused the female coyote to drop the cat.

"The coyote circled on me and tried to grab at me within arm's lengths," he said.

Daly started screaming and waving his arms, hoping to scare the coyote off - but nothing worked.

"I was able to get to the edge of the back steps and I was able to pick her (the cat) up and go in and the coyote was following me up the steps," he said.

Animal Control responded and found the coyote. At one point, the coyote started coming at an ACO in this yard. The animal control officer had to shoot the coyote to stop it.

The coyote was sent for rabies testing. The cat was treated at the vet for serious injuries and had to undergo surgery.
