Christmas trees and decorations selling out earlier than usual

WESTWOOD, Mass. — Christmas decorations have been already selling out this weekend and it’s not even December yet.

“It’s been crazy,” said Nino Lambert, who owns Lambert’s Garden Center. “This is just another level, it’s off the hook.”

Lambert’s in Westwood has been swamped all weekend with people buying Christmas trees and other decorations for the holidays. Lambert said this weekend is already busier than any weekend last year, and he’s never seen trees sell so quickly before.

“We do still have a lot of trees left, but this is how it looks like after the second weekend in December,” Lambert said.

But it’s still November and families are already gearing up for Christmas. Some tree farms have even sold out already.

“It’s kind of been a down year for most people, so we decided to try to spice up the house a little earlier this year,” said Gavin Pittore, who was buying a tree Sunday. “And we’re pretty bored.”

Whether it’s boredom, pandemic blues, or just being home more this year, a lot of people are decorating more than they usually do.

“I’m in college and so normally I don’t come home until like a week before Christmas, but I’m home so much earlier this year because of COVID,” said Lindsey Quinlisk. “So I have more time to decorate, so I just wanted to decorate a lot more.”

That’s why Quinlisk and her parents are buying two Christmas trees this year. They found a small tree, but they’re still on the hunt for a bigger one.

“This is the third place we’ve gone to tonight and they were all really busy,” Quinlisk said.

Lambert said, if you plan on buying a Christmas tree, don’t wait too much longer.

“This weekend beat our busiest weekend ever already and it’s not even December yet,” Lambert said. “I’m afraid we’re going to run out of trees soon. Let me put it this way, I’m bringing my tree home tonight.”
