‘Chicken and Rice Guys' shut down over E. coli concerns

BOSTON — A popular restaurant and food truck chain has been shut down after health inspectors received an anonymous complaint about people getting sick from the food.

The Health Department is expected to meet with the owners of the Middle Eastern food company Chicken and Rice Guys on Wednesday to discuss a plan of action.

The meeting comes after inspectors shut down several restaurants and food trucks because of an E. coli outbreak.

According to the Boston Globe, the Health Department said at least seven people were infected after eating at the company’s Allston location.

Three of the company’s stores were closed Tuesday, but its Medford location will remain open because Boston inspectors don’t have jurisdiction over that location.

The company’s four food trucks, which rotate locations around Boston, were also taken off the road.

The restaurant posted to Facebook saying it’s working hard to determine the cause of the problem and voluntarily shut down operations.

Owners said they will not reopen until they’re sure they can provide the best service and products to their fans.

E.coli has several symptoms, including stomach cramps and vomiting. Most people recover in five to seven days, but about five to 10 percent develop complications that can shut down the kidneys.
