Chicago Cubs victory rally among largest gatherings in human history

CHICAGO — With an estimated 5 million people attended the Chicago Cubs parade and rally, it is now being counted among the largest gatherings in human history.

A list compiled by The Telegraph in 2015 lists the largest ever gatherings of people, and the Cubs rally Friday barely misses the top 5.

2. Arbaeen Festival, Iraq – 2014: 17 million
3. Funeral of CN Annadurai, India – 1969: 15 million
4. Funeral of Ayatollah Khomeini, Iran – 1989: 10 million
5. Papal gathering, Philippines – 2015: 6 million
6. **Cubs victory rally, Chicago – 2016: 5 million
7. World Youth Day papal mass, Philippines - 1995: 5 million
8. Funeral of Gamal Abdel Nasser, Egypt – 1970: 5 million

By comparison, the Red Sox rolling rally after winning the 2004 World Series is estimated to have had a crowd of around 3 million people.
