Service to be suspended on parts of the Orange Line for the next 6 weekends

NOW PLAYING ABOVE

BOSTON — Sections of the Orange Line are being suspended this weekend for several stops and repairs will continue for the next six weekends.

The line is currently shut down between Sullivan Square and Tufts Medical Center stations for work through Sunday night.

Bus shuttles will be available between Sullivan Square and Haymarket stations only during the closures.

People are advised to use the Green Line between Haymarket and Copley and walk to Back Bay to get onto the southern portion of the Orange Line.

Bluebikes is offering rides for $1 on the weekends.

The weekend closures will help the MBTA complete work at Downtown Crossing, Haymarket and State Street 11 months sooner than originally planned.

The work is part of MBTA’s $8 billion, five-year capital investment program to rebuild the Orange Line. The upgrades are expected to result in faster trips as well as less crowding on platforms and in stations.

Work is expected to last through Nov. 10.
