BOSTON — Passengers about to embark on a cruise bound for the Caribbean have been informed they’re heading north instead, according to Norwegian Cruise Lines.
A spokesperson for the travel company says the Norwegian Dawn, which was scheduled to depart from Boston Friday, has had a change of plans.
The ship was due to head south, but citing the guests’ ‘safety and security’ in the face of Hurricane Florence’s track through the Atlantic Ocean, the company has changed plans.
Travelers who thought they were headed for the sunny Caribbean will instead stop off in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Maine.
“Our on-board team is prepared to ensure the best vacation experience possible given these weather-related necessary changes,” a spokesperson said in a statement sent to Boston 25 News. “We will continue to closely monitor the storm and provide additional updates as they become available.”
The Norwegian Dawn will depart from Boston’s Cruise Port Friday and head to Halifax and Sydney, Nova Scotia; St. John, New Brunswick; and Bar Harbor, Maine.
