Cannabis retail stores double sales in second week of operation

BOSTON — The first two retail stores in Massachusetts doubled their total sales in the second week.

According to the Cannabis Control Commission, stores in Northampton and Leicester raked in $2.5 million in its first full week of operation. That more than doubles the $2.2 million brought in during the first five days of sales in the first week.

Retail sales began in the Commonwealth on Nov. 20, with Cultivate Holdings and New England Treatment Access opening the first adult-use cannabis stores in the state.

Both of those previously operated medical marijuana facilities and were allowed to carry over supply cultivated under their medical operations.

Several stores are waiting on final approval to begin sales and will be opening in the coming weeks, learning from the long lines and high sales of the first two operations.
