QUINCY, Mass. — Firefighters rescued a woman from her burning home in Quincy early Wednesday morning.

Crews responding to a report of a fire at 11 Willet Street around 1:45 a.m. found flames shooting from the windows of the engulfed home, according to Quincy Fire Chief Joseph Jackson.

Jackson said the second floor of the house was engulfed in flames when crews arrived.

Jackson said the woman lives alone in the house, and the second floor was under construction. Firefighters found her on the first floor.

The woman was treated by EMS personnel at the scene. It’s unclear if she was brought to the hospital, and Jackson could not comment on the severity of her injuries.

“These guys did a fantastic job given the location of the house, this is a tough structure to get to,” Jackson said. “These guys pinned it down really well, they did a fantastic job keeping it to the original building.”

Firefighters used hydrants from all of the streets surrounding the house so they could hit it with water from all sides. Jackson noted the house was completely destroyed.

Neighbor Hilliary Kramer said she woke up to the sound of glass breaking and that the fire spread very quickly.

“It sounded like grass breaking, almost a crackling noise...The fire spread very, very quickly,” Kramer explained. The house is a total loss.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
