BPD: One person seriously injured in crash in Charlestown, no citations issued yet

BOSTON — Boston Police are currently investigating a serious crash that seriously injured at least one person in Charlestown.

Officials say full notifications have been made from this crash and that a fatal collision team is on scene.

The speed limit on Bunker Hill Street is 25 mph and officials are working to figure out just how fast one, if not both, drivers had to be going in order for something like this to happen. Pictures from the scene show two cars with serious damage and tires strewn across the street. One car sits on one side of the street while the toher has its back on the front steps of a house.

The street the crash happened on at around 1:45 p.m. on Thursday is just a couple of feet away from the Harvard Kent elementary school.

Witnesses at the scene say speeding is often a problem on this street and usually see drivers trying to avoid the parked cars on either side of the street, sometimes crossing the double yellow line in the middle of the road.

One witness said they saw an ambulance take away one person who they say they believe flew out of the car from the crash and landed on the ground.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and many in the city of Boston practicing social distancing, it’s unclear why these cars were on the road and whether they were essential personnel or not. Authorities continue to investigate the crash to determine exactly what happened.

No citations have been issued nor have any arrests been made.
