BOSTON — A bank robber was arrested Monday hours after the robbery when he himself called police to report he had been robbed, according to Boston police.
Around 1 p.m. Monday, police in South Boston were told of a bank robbery at the East Boston Savings Bank on Southampton Street. A woman there described a man with a distinct limp who came in with a note about a bomb and demanded money.
She told police she handed over the money and he left.
It was around 6:30 p.m., according to police, when Eugene Davis, 54, called 911 to report a robbery at a home on Old Colony Avenue. Police say Davis told officers he had been attacked an robbed inside the apartment.
Police say while interviewing him, they noticed a distinct limp and found he matched the description of the earlier bank robber.
According to police, Davis declined medical treatment and asked for a ride to the airport so he could 'return to Chicago.'
Police say Davis was arrested and charged with armed robbery. He also has an active warrants in Quincy and West Roxbury for larceny over $1200 and aggravated assault and battery.
