Boxing Day marks 20-year anniversary of Edgewater shooting in Wakefield that left 7 dead

WAKEFIELD, Mass. — Today marks 20 years since a man opened fire at his place of employment in Wakefield, killing seven of his co-workers.

It was the day after Christmas in 2000 when Michael McDermott entered Edgewater Technology Inc. in Wakefield. He was heavily armed when he opened fire, killing seven people.

The victims were Janice Hagerty, Cheryl Troy, Louis Javelle, Craig Wood, Paul Marceau, Rose Manfredi and Jennifer Bragg Capobianco.

More than two years after the shooting, McDermott was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
