BOSTON — A Boston charter school has accepted the resignation of one of its teachers over what it's calling misconduct with a high school student.
The school took swift action.
Boston Prep Charter School first notified parents in a letter dated March 23 that one of its female teachers was let go for some kind of relationship with a high school student.
The letter to parents said, in part, "This week, our community's trust has been violated. Last week, we learned of alleged misconduct between a high school student who is over the age of 18 and a faculty member."
Because the high school student is over the age of 18, officials say there are no charges against the teacher.
The school says this is an ethical violation, not a legal one.
In a statement to FOX25 News, Boston Prep said the teacher was put on paid administrative leave when it learned of the allegation. After an investigation, Boston Prep accepted the teacher's resignation.
"This is a difficult time for our school community," officials said in a statement. "The alleged misconduct is an affront to our values. Our focus now is on supporting the student involved, as well as ensuring all our students, teachers and staff have access to services and supports to move forward."
One parent called the news devastating and said the teacher is someone her children admire.
"She was a wonderful teacher," parent Darlene Allegro said. "She really was. My kids loved her. It is very disappointing."
The school will not confirm the teacher's name or provide any details about the misconduct between her and the high school student.
Boston Prep is a Charter School, which means it doesn't fall under the authority of the Boston School Department.
FOX25 reached out to state officials, but we didn't hear back by this posting.
