BOSTON — After spending hours outside a Dorchester home investigating a death, Boston Police officers made an arrest in the case.

Several cruisers and multiple police officers were seen at 357 Columbia Road investigating the incident as of Thursday afternoon. The same night, police announced they arrested 22-year-old Zackery Grandy, of Dorchester, in connection to his mother’s murder.

Officers at the scene said they found Grandy’s deceased mother inside the house. It is still unclear how she died.

A car parked nearby had damage to its windshield and what looked like bullet holes that had gone through the glass.

Grandy appeared in court Friday where he was ordered held without bail and will undergo a mental health evaluation. His defense attorney Keith Halpern told Boston 25 News “He is so psychotic that he is essentially non-communicative. He has no touch with reality you can’t hold a conversation with him. He doesn’t know who is who. Has no understanding I am the lawyer."
