BOSTON — Police are investigating two crime scenes where one person was killed, and two others were injured after being shot early Thursday.
Boston Police Superintendent Paul Donovan said officers responded to a ShotSpotter notification around 12:30 a.m. detecting possible gunfire on Astoria Street in Mattapan. Officers found “numerous pieces of ballistic evidence” and were then called to another scene, about a half-mile away, at 7 Dyer St. in Dorchester, Donovan said.
At the Dyer Street scene, officers found a car with two people inside with gunshot wounds, Donovan said; one person was pronounced dead at the scene, another was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A third person went to a local hospital on their own with unknown injuries, he said.
Witnesses said they heard screams at the scene.
"Screams. Some man, 'I can't believe he's dead, I can't believe he's dead," said Idalia Saldana.
"I only heard the scream: 'He can't be dead,'" Jimmy Lebron said.
Police are looking into whether all three people were shot in Mattapan and then left that area. Candles were placed on Dyer Street where one of the two victims found in the car died.
For some, the shooting happened too close to home.
"I was worried for my grandson because he's a little kid, 9 years-old, you know, and he was in the bed," Saldana said.
Lebron called the shooting "scary."
"You don't want to be involved in a shooting. That's why I don't let anyone out of the house. It's dangerous," he said.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, Donovan said.
