BOSTON — Police continue to search for a gunman who shot and killed one man and injured three others in a brazen shooting in the city's Dorchester neighborhood early Wednesday evening, Boston Police said.

The shooting occurred around 6:30 p.m. in the area of 32 Windermere Road in Dorchester.

On Thursday, concerned neighbors met with police and city leaders about the gun violence at St. Mary's Church in Dorchester.

Tina Cherry, a staunch supporter of safer streets, says treating symptoms that lead to violence and supporting the families devastated by it are vital.

"There’s an issue before that guns, why are children there picking them up?" Cherry said.

Cherry's 15-year-old Louis Brown, a bystander caught in crossfire on his way to an anti-gang meeting in 1993.

"All lives are valued. All families deserve to be treated with dignity and compassion regardless of the circumstances," Cherry said.

Wednesday night, at the scene, responding officers found four adult men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Three of the victims were transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries while the victim who died was pronounced dead on scene.

He was identified as 33-year-old Kevin Brewington of Allston.

Boston Police Commissioner William Gross said the four men were shot while sitting in a parked car.

The gunman approached the vehicle on foot, but it's unclear how they got away, Gross said in addressing reporters.

Investigators cordoned off the area with yellow crime scene tape.

The multiple shooting occurred on the eve of the planned celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute in Boston, honoring Cherry's son.

She continues to promote a message of peace as she looks to expand the institute to a permanent home, and get an awareness month dedicated to supporting relatives of homicide victims.
