Boston organizations offering reward for arrest, conviction of Dorchester great grandmother murder suspect

DORCHESTER, Mass. — Faith leaders gathered in Dorchester Monday to offer a $10,000 reward to anyone who identifies the person who killed 72-year-old Delois Brown.

“When a 72-year-old great-grandmother in Dorchester is not safe from a gunman’s bullet, then none of us are safe,” said Rev. Kevin Peterson.

Brown was sitting on her front porch one month ago when she was struck by a bullet. Boston Police said she was not the intended target and that there is still an active investigation.

So far no one has been arrested for her murder.

“We put up $10,000, and the money isn’t the most important thing, the money is a statement that somebody cares about the life of an innocent elderly woman,” said Rev. Eugene F. Rivers, III.

Rev. Rivers said faith leaders in their community gathered the reward money in the hopes someone will finally come forward to help convict Brown’s killer.

“They need to stand before the court of law, they need to be tried, they need to be convicted, they need to go to jail,” Rev. Peterson said.

Rev. Rivers said someone in Dorchester knows something about this murder case, and he said it’s time for accountability in this community.

“We understand racism, we understand there are bad cops, but it was not a bad white cop that shot that innocent woman,” Rev. Rivers said.

Now, Rev. Rivers said he’s hoping to work with the mayor and elected officials on a plan to address violence in this community.

“We must reconvene on Father’s Day, I’ll be coming forward to introduce a 10-point plan for a local, regional and national mobilization of faith communities to deal with the issues that created the tragedy with Ms. Brown,” Rev. Rivers said.
