Boston named the drunkest city in the state

BOSTON — Boston has been named the drunkest city in Massachusetts, according to a new study.

24/7 Wall St. reviewed the percentage of men and women who report binge or heavy drinking in each of the state's metro areas. Based on that data, it determined all five metro areas in Massachusetts have a larger share of adults who drink excessively than the corresponding 18 percent national figure.

From there, the statistics showed that in the Boston metro area, 20.5% of adults report either binge or heavy drinking in the last month, the highest share in the state. Last year, Pittsfield was dubbed the drunkest city.

Massachusetts is one of 11 states where happy hour deals are outlawed.

Overall, Appleton, Wisconsin was discovered to be the drunkest city in the country with 26.8 percent of adults reporting binge drinking.
