BOSTON (FOX 25 / MyFoxBoston.com) - A Boston Latin School student has been diagnosed with tuberculosis, and as a result, a number of students and faculty will be tested for the disease, school officials announced on Thursday afternoon.
The Head Master made the announcement on school's website and sent home a letter with students on Thursday.
Tuberculosis is spread by airborne germs and usually affects the lungs; however, the disease is not spread by brief, such as such as passing in the hall or in the cafeteria and exposure to a person who is sick does not usually result in infection. It is both treatable and curable, reports Boston.com.
According to the school's website, the infected student is being treated and will not return to school until it is medically safe to do so.
Boston Latin School is located 78 Avenue Louis Pasteur in Boston.
