NEWTON, Mass. — A Boston College student is on a unique path back to campus during the pandemic. Gordon Wayne, a rising sophomore from Virginia, is walking 500 miles to Newton from his home state in Virginia to raise money and awareness about homelessness.
It’s a battle he says he knows all too well. Wayne says he’s been homeless for the last 14 months, a situation that will change soon with him living on BC’s campus. Wayne says he’s walking “to help bring others out of the deep psychological hole homelessness creates.” His walk is raising money for the National Alliance to End Homelessness and a GoFundMe set up to help in that effort has already raised more than $15,000.
Wayne is expected to arrive at BC’s campus Friday around noon as other students from around the country start moving back into the college’s dorms.
