Bomb threats cause evacuations at multiple schools

CHARLTON, Mass. — Several area schools received automated bomb threats Monday morning. Below is each school affected, with information from police.

CHARLTON

Shortly after 10 a.m. Monday, Charlton Middle School received a bomb threat.

The Charlton Police Department, Massachusetts State Police and the Charlton Fire Department are on scene addressing the situation.

Students have been evacuated and relocated to the Heritage School. Access to both schools has been restricted.

If parents feel the need, a staging area has been established at Bay Path High School at 57 Old Muggett Hill Road.

Police have asked that residents not call the police department for information. They will update their Facebook page as new information becomes available.

DOVER

Also Monday morning, A Dover elementary school received one of the multiple automated bomb threats that were broadcast to several school districts across the state.

Dover police and firefighters, and school administration swept the building. After consulting with the Commonwealth Fusion Center and the Mass State Police Bomb Squad, it was determined to be just that, a hoax.

SOMERSET

At 9:25 a.m., the Chace Street School in Somerset received an automated "robo-call" bomb threat.

The administrators at the school immediately called 911 and the students were evacuated from the school. Somerset police and fire responded and secured a perimeter around the school. The New Bedford Police Department's bomb sniffing K-9 and Somerset's K-9 checked the school with the principal and others from the school. A Massachusetts State Police bomb technician was also on-hand. The school was secured at approximately 11:00 a.m.

At about the same time, Barnstable, Wellfleet, Mashpee, and Fall River school also received a similar threat. Although these scares are considered a "low-threat" by the Massachusetts State Police, all necessary resources worked together to make sure the school was secure.

We are working diligently to find the person or persons responsible for this threat.

There were reports of a threat called in to Wareham, but the school has said they did not receive a threat.
