Auburn Police searching for suspect who threw Molotov cocktails at homes

AUBURN, Mass. — Auburn Police say someone threw Molotov cocktails at homes in the town over the weekend. Now they're looking to make an arrest as they continue to investigate.

One of the homes hit by a Molotov cocktail was the landlord's unit. Whoever threw it failed – no one was hurt and the house is still standing.

"At first I thought maybe it was an air conditioner that heated up a wire then I looked and there was no air conditioner," said Stephen Collins, the property owner.

He owns the North Oxford Street multi-family apartment building in Auburn. Even after the noise, he didn’t come out to see what happened.

"The following day I was in and out of the driveway," he remembered. "And of course, I don't look at the house every time."

When he did, he saw a large black mark and melted siding just above his window.

"I looked down and then I saw a bottle here," he said.

Auburn Police say Collins' home and another one on nearby Burnett Street were both hit by Molotov cocktails, the chief telling Boston 25 News he thinks the incidents are connected.

This incident has rattled those living nearby, Collins says he did have a disgruntled tenant not long ago. He also has security cameras as well, though he hasn’t checked them yet.

Collins says about $1,000 in damage was done. Police are asking anyone who has information to come forward.
