BOSTON — Hernandez is facing one additional count not stemming directly from the shooting.

Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado were shot and killed on July 16, 2012. The prosecution claimed that Hernandez was fueled by anger over a spilled drink and fatally shot both men. Hernandez's defense argued that it was actually Hernandez's friend, Alexander Bradley, who shot the men over a drug deal.

When the verdicts were read, many people in the courtroom became emotional including the victims' families, Hernandez, and his fiancee Shayanna Jenkins.

"Mr. Hernandez was wrongly accused of those crimes. ... We are delighted that the jury saw what we saw all along," defense attorney Ron Sullivan said after the verdict was read. "Hopefully the public will see that just because one is a celebrity, a New England Patriot, they deserve the same treatment under the law."

As she was leaving court, Hernandez’s Jenkins said she was “very happy" about his acquittal.

Hernandez was sentenced to 4-5 years on the unlawful possession of a firearm charge, that sentence will be served in addition to his life sentence for the murder of Odin Lloyd.

The jury heard testimony for six weeks and spent about 37 hours deliberating before reaching their decision.

"We based our decision on the evidence presented and the law," juror Lindsey Stringer said.

Hernandez already is serving life in prison for the 2013 killing of semi-professional football player Odin Lloyd.

Hernandez was indicted for the shooting deaths of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado, but his attorney claimed he wasn’t even in the SUV from which the shots were fired.

After the jury's decision was announced, Suffolk County District Attorney Dan Conley said the relatives of de Abreu and Furtado were "devastated," and that the case was "always about the victims."

A family member of one victim told Conley "at least he's not walking out the door today."

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said he was "disappointed" with the verdict.

"I have the utmost respect for the Jury and thank them for their service but simply disagree with the verdict reached. The evidence in this case all points to Aaron Hernandez as the sole person responsible for the tragic and untimely deaths of Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado,' he said.

Defense attorney Jose Baez wasn't in the courthouse as the verdict was read due to what his team called a medical issue. Baez did speak to TMZ after the decision was made though, saying Hernandez is "not a killer."
