AMHERST, Mass. (MyFoxBoston.com) – Six University of Massachusetts Amherst students were arrested and several more were hospitalized after a melee involving more than 2,000 people at a St. Patrick's Day party at an off-campus apartment complex last weekend.
According to the Boston Globe, it all started around noon Saturday with a large, outdoor party celebrating the "Blarney Blowout," the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day.
Twenty officers who responded to the scene around 4:45 p.m. saw students setting fires, breaking home and car windows, and throwing bottles at each other and at police when they arrived, the newspaper reported.
The university is seeking to take action to discipline those it can prove were involved.
