5 teens charged after attacking 13-year-old, posting it on Snapchat

BRAINTREE, Mass. — Five teenagers are charged with assaulting another teen and posting it live on social media last month.

An upset mother says her son was attacked right outside their front door and believes he was targeted because of his skin color.

Braintree Police say the assault was put on Snapchat by one of the teens who is now charged. On the video, police say you can see the five teens - two girls and three boys ages 13 to 15 - assaulted a 13-year-old. Some can be seen kicking the victim.

The mother says her son was talking to the two girls about meeting up and when he went outside, police say it turned into a physical attack. She says her son got text messages with racial slurs from the same teens now charged in the attack.

Braintree Police investigated the incident, charged all five teens, but say there was no clear evidence of a hate crime.

"He maintained his composure. They were calling him the 'n word' and everything. You have to go back to your plantation," his mother Mireille told us.

Police are looking into whether the attack was motivated by some sort of relationship issue possibly over a girl.

All five teens face assault and battery charges and are due in juvenile court on March 7.
