25 Investigates: Weymouth shooting suspect was out on bail after drug charges

WEYMOUTH, Mass. — The man accused of shooting and killing two people in Weymouth Sunday was awaiting trial for two cases, 25 Investigates has learned.

Emanuel Lopes was out of jail on $500 dollars bail and was due back in court at the end of July for two cases involving drugs, resisting arrest and for throwing a rock through someone's window.

Police say he threw a rock through the window of a house in Weymouth in September of last year.

According to court documents reviewed by 25 Investigates, the people living there had just kicked him out.

A month later, police arrested Lopes again for possession of cocaine with intent to sell.

In an area known as The Shelf, Police found Lopes and six others described as underage. Officers say he jumped to the bottom of the seawall and ran before they could pat him down.

One wrote, "he's six-foot-three and we have fought with him before."

Officers eventually arrested Lopes and records show he went to a drug rehab center at the end of last year. It's not clear how long he stayed there.

Lopes was arrested again for "failure to show for a drug test" in February, but he was back on the street after paying $500 bail when prosecutors say he shot and killed Officer Michael Chesna and Vera Adams yesterday.
