24 pounds of liquid cocaine seized at Logan Airport

BOSTON (MyFoxBoston.com) – A 38-year-old woman arriving at Logan International Airport on a flight from the Dominican Republic reportedly transported 24 pounds of a liquid cocaine mixture stored inside small cosmetic containers.

The alleged smuggler, Johanna Carolina Ortiz, is a U.S. Citizen and arrived from Santo Domingo on Jan. 28. During a baggage examination, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Field of Operations officers at Logan International Airport became suspicious about a large amount of cosmetic products in Ortiz's suitcase.

After testing, officials said they confirmed that Ortiz had liquid cocaine concealed in 25 bottles and canisters labeled as various lotions and hair products.

Ortiz, the narcotics and personal belongings were turned over to the Mass. State Police Logan Airport Narcotics Task Force for further investigation and prosecution by the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office.
