Man charged with attempted murder after dump truck crash in Gloucester

GLOUCESTER, Mass. — A Beverly man is facing attempted murder and other charges after two people were hit by a dump truck in Gloucester.

Michael Baker, 41, is charged with attempted murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, a motor vehicle; and assault and battery, Gloucester Police said in a statement Friday night.

Gloucester Police and Fire responded to a location outside 951 Washington St., in the Lanesville section of the city, around 11 a.m. Friday.

Emergency responders found a man, later identified as Baker, and a woman had been struck by a light-duty dump truck.

Baker suffered serious injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening, police said. He was flown to a Boston hospital. The woman sustained injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. She was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.

A preliminary investigation found that during a dispute, Baker allegedly abruptly picked up the woman and entered the roadway in the path of the truck where they were both struck. The driver remained at the scene and was cooperative with police.

Washington Street was closed in both directions as police investigated.
