BOSTON, Mass. — A 19-year-old man was shot and killed in an early-morning shooting on Vinson Street in Dorchester Thursday, according to Boston Police Commissioner William Gross. This is the city's 45th homicide this year.
Multiple shots were fired around 2 a.m. and the victim was transported to a local hospital but did not survive. Police are still searching for the shooter.
Vinson Street was closed to traffic for about four hours after the shooting. Two cars were towed from the scene but it is not clear if they are connected to the shooting.
This is the sixth fatal shooting in Boston in just the past week: five people were shot and killed over the holiday weekend. Dozens of concerned citizens came together on Monday night in Dorchester to rally to stop the violence.
Commissioner Gross stressed that anyone in the community with information is asked to contact police.
“There’s too many guns on the street. Forty-eight hours, five gun arrests." Gross said. “We still have to work together. Those are the cold hard facts. The onus isn’t solely on the police department, but everybody in the city. And with your help, we have been solving crimes.”
Two arrests have been made in connection with the weekend shootings, Gross said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Boston Police Homicide Detectives at 617-343-4470 or anonymously through the CrimeStoppers tip line at 1-800-494-TIPS or by texting the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463).
