RANDOLPH, Mass. — Thirteen people were hospitalized Monday evening after a fight aboard a Brockton Area Transit bus caused that bus to crash in Randolph.
One of the people taken to the hospital was the bus driver.
A witness and another source at the scene told Boston 25 News the fight was between a passenger and the driver, which caused the driver to lose control. The bus then hit a car and slammed into a utility pole.
The BAT bus runs from Ashmont to Brockton with only one stop in Randolph center.
The passenger, who we are told was a young man in his 20s, wanted to get off early but the driver refused to stop.
"There was a young man who wanted to get off the bus and the driver wouldn't let him off. So he started attacking the bus driver, punched the bus driver in the face," said one witness. "The bus driver lost control and hit a car, then hit the pole."
About 30 people were on the bus. One young girl reportedly had a serious shoulder injury. A passenger in the car hit by the bus was also taken to the hospital.
The man who reportedly attacked the bus driver was arrested.
