1 person dead after single-vehicle crash in Marlborough

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. — One person is dead after a car crash in Marlborough.

Police tell FOX25 74-year-old Peter Norton of Marlborough was driving down Elm Street when he crashed around 3:30 p.m. No one else was in the vehicle.

Even though the crash only involved one vehicle, police had to close a section of Elm Street for their investigation.

"It was a bang, bang, bang and then a huge explosion almost. It shook the house,” a neighbor told FOX25. "Once you come out here and take a look at the scene, I mean, it pretty much describes what you heard.”

The driver of the car hit a mailbox before veering off the road, hitting a tree, and flipping the car in the woods.

Kelvin Webster is the owner of the house where the mailbox was hit.

"I thought it could have been me standing at my mailbox getting my mail in an instant my life would’ve flashed before me and that would've been it,” he told FOX25.

But even with the damage, what has neighbors most upset is the loss of a life.

"There's a family out there that lost a loved one and that's, that's really bad,” a neighbor said.
