More than 311K Ford explorers recalled due to sharp seat frames

DEARBORN, Mich. — Ford is recalling hundreds of thousands of 2017 Ford Explorers after reports of injuries due to sharp seat edges.

According to a September news release from Ford Motor Company, vehicles with power seats may have sharp edges in the seat frames. Customers who reach down between the power front seat and center console could cut themselves.

Ford has received 31 reports of hand injuries because of the seat frame edge.

The recall involves 311,907 vehicles in the United States and federal territories, 23,380 vehicles in Canada and 3,045 vehicles in Mexico, according to the company. The vehicles were assembled in the Chicago Assembly Plant from Feb. 13, 2016, to Oct. 25, 2017.

Affected vehicles were built at Chicago Assembly Plant from Feb. 13, 2016, to Oct. 25, 2017.

"Dealers will install flocked tape to the exposed edge and tab on the inboard side of the power seat frames," the news release said. "Customers are advised to use caution and avoid contact with the seat frame edge until the repair is completed."
