FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — The fan seen throwing beer on Tyreek Hill moments after he scored his third touchdown against the Patriots Sunday night has been banned from Gillette Stadium, according to the team.
As Hill cruised out the back of the end zone Sunday night in the fourth quarter of the highly contentious matchup against the Patriots, he found himself face to face with Pats fans.
It was clear enough on television the fans were not saying nice things to Hill, but it was also immediately clear one of them crossed the line by throwing beer directly into the wide receiver's face.
"There's no reason for that, good sportsmanship starts with the fans," said Jennifer Rector, a Patriots fan.
In a statement issued Monday afternoon, the Patriots organization said it had turned over the fan's identify to local law enforcement and issued "a letter of disinvite to all future events at Gillette Stadium."
Foxborough Police said Monday evening that the fan, a 21-year-old Mansfield resident, would be facing charges of disorderly conduct and throwing an object at a sporting event.
"We were not able to identify the person and the people in the immediate area were not immediately willing to help us in that regard, which is why we pursued it and continued to conduct an investigation," said Foxborough Police Chief Bill Baker.
The beer toss, along with several rude gestures made to Hill, were widely derided on social media Monday morning, but Hill later reportedly began exploring legal options against the fan.
Tyreek Hill's agent is calling the behavior unacceptable, and most fans seem to stand behind his words.
"It’s just terrible to think that’s the example we are setting for our kids and future Patriots fans, it’s unfortunate," said Rector.
