1 child transported to Boston hospital after crash involving school van and car

LOWELL, Mass. - Lowell Police are currently on scene of a crash involving a school transportation van and a car.

Officers responded to the crash at around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the area of 12th and Bridge streets.

The Lowell Fire Department told Boston 25 News three children and one adult driver were onboard the school transportation van.

One of those children was MedFlighted to Massachusetts General Hospital, but the extent of their injuries is still unclear.

Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate the driver of the van, who was then transported to Lowell General Hospital by ambulance with a head injury.

The driver of the SUV involved in the crash was also transported to LGH with a head injury.

Four ambulances were called to the scene, but there is still no word on how many passengers were aboard the car that struck the van.

The two other children were also transported to area hospitals but there is still no word on the extent of their injuries.
