SCITUATE, Mass. — Firefighters responded to a multi-alarm blaze near Minot Beach in Scituate Friday night. Five homes on Glades Road showed heavy smoke and flames spewing out of the roof and sides.
According to first responders, crews had severe water supply issues. In addition to the water supply issues fireboats are unable to gain access to the fires due to the rocks along the shoreline and low tide.
Fire crews from several surrounding towns assisted in putting out the blaze.
At the height of the fire, 60 firefighters were working to put out and contain the fire.
The Department of Fire Services has deployed a rehab unit to support personnel at the scene and State Police fire investigators assigned to the State Fire Marshal’s office are responding to support Scituate FD investigators.
Residents should expect potential power outages as well as water-related issues (pressure and discoloration) as a result, according to Scituate Police.
No injuries have been reported at this time. Of the five homes, three are a total loss and three are severely damaged, according to the fire chief.
Boston 25 has learned that the homes are rental properties, and most of them are used as Airbnb’.
Firefighters believe the fire started in the middle of three homes that burned. It was under construction. The fire is not considered suspicious.
