TOPSFIELD, Mass. — A man is facing charges after allegedly breaking into an occupied Topsfield home early Monday morning.
Philip Johnson is charged with breaking and entering in the nighttime, trespassing, defacing property, and disorderly conduct.
According to police, a resident of Dover Hill Road reported during the early hours of December 9 that someone was inside their home. Police did not say if anything was taken but there were no reports of any injuries.
Topsfield officers quickly responded and set up a perimeter, with mutual aid assistance from Wenham, Boxford, and the Ipswich Police Department.
At Topsfield’s request, Amesbury Police K9 Meatball responded to the scene and tracked the suspect, identified as Johnson, behind a home on Hickory Lane, about a half mile away, according to investigators.
Johnson surrendered and was placed into custody.
He was arraigned in Ipswich District Court on Tuesday.
“The Topsfield Police Department cannot thank our mutual aid partners enough for their professionalism, which led to a quick and successful apprehension of the suspect,” police wrote in a social media post.
