Bodies of Rutland hikers recovered in Maine Saturday

BAR HARBOR, MAINE — Bodies of a man and woman from Rutland were recovered in Maine Saturday after the two apparently fell 100 feet while hiking Dorr Mountain, the National Park Service said in a release.

The pair had arrived in Bar Harbor, Maine on Tuesday and were last heard from around noontime Thursday. Officials began searching for the man, 28, and the woman, 30, on Friday evening following a report from family members.

The bodies of the pair were found late Saturday morning after a ground search began following an unsuccessful search by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter on Friday.

State and local police in Maine are investigating the deaths along with rangers from the National Parks Service.
