YARMOUTH — Injured Yarmouth K9 Nero received a special toy as he continues to recover after being shot.
Nero worked with Yarmouth Sergeant Sean Gannon who was shot and killed while serving a warrant in Barnstable in April. Nero was also shot that day.
Yarmouth Police posted on its Facebook page a picture showing Nero playing with his very own "YPD K9 Pup Nero."
The stuffed animals are being sold as fundraiser for the department and quickly sold out. The Yarmouth Police Foundation said they placed an order for more pups earlier this month which should take about three weeks to fulfill.
A law enforcement source told Boston 25 News a bullet went through Nero's check and into his shoulder. He underwent emergency surgery and was recovering with Peter McClelland, a retired Yarmouth Police K9 handler.
Gannon had been with the Yarmouth Police Department for eight years, and was friends with law enforcement members across the Commonwealth.
