Sanders, 31, was a campaign adviser for Joe Biden during the 2020 election and joined Harris’ staff as the administration came into office in January.

According to Politico, it is not clear where Sanders will be heading next.

The news of Sander’s departure comes amid reports of dysfunction and infighting in the vice president’s office. Last month, Ashley Etienne, Harris’ communications director, announced she would be leaving her job in the coming weeks.

An official in Harris’ office confirmed the departure, according to Politico, and said that Harris and President Joe Biden have “known for a while.”

“Symone has served honorably for 3 years,” a White House official told The Hill, adding that Biden and Harris are “grateful for Symone’s service and advocacy” and “she will be missed.”

Politico published a note Sanders sent to her staff Wednesday night, in which she wrote: “I’m so grateful to the VP for her vote of confidence from the very beginning and the opportunity to see what can be unburdened by what has been.

“I’m grateful for Tina (Flournoy, Harris’ chief of staff) and her leadership and her confidence as well. Every day, I arrived to the White House complex knowing our work made a tangible difference for Americans. I am immensely grateful and will miss working for her and with all of you.”
