Quincy Police investigating after string of car break-ins, smashed windows

Quincy Police are investigating after a rash of break-ins throughout the North Quincy area.

The department posted on their website about the issue, saying six cars were broken into in the area of Hancock Street and the Adams Inn Hotel overnight from Thursday into Friday.

Then, on Saturday, the department had 18 reported break-ins, with 11 in a parking garage at the Mellen Brady House on Weston Avenue. Seven more cars were impacted at the Quincy Commons apartment complex.

"It's a big sense of anger," Quincy Commons resident Charles Strong said. "To happen consistently is not a good sign."

Tom Newton Jr., another resident in the apartment complex, said he thinks whoever is behind the crime aren't Quincy residents.

"I would say it's desperate people, it's not people from this area," Newton Jr. said. "They're very lucky someone didn't confront them."

Whoever committed the crime is still on the loose, after likely going in and out of each location in just a few minutes.

"Unfortunately, we don't have any security cameras around here," Quincy Commons resident Pradeep Gadeela said.

Each car was broken into after a window had been smashed, and one victim's statement to police narrowed down the possible time for the incidents between 6 p.m. and 6:25 p.m. on Saturday.
